This month in Lombard, Valdes Engineering Company's Safety Manager Amy Gibson offered a two-part class to educate VEC families in the latest lifesaving techniques. Training classes had been offered at field locations throughout the summer.
Everyone had a lot of fun learning CPR, practicing bandaging and splinting techniques, pretending to deliver real shocks with the AED (automated external defibrillator) and learning to care for a variety of sudden illnesses. The class primarily focused on treating adults, but included information on treating children and infants as well.
