Safety Manager

Valdes Engineering Company (VEC) provides professional engineering services to companies located in the greater Chicago-land area. Our client base includes leading companies in the petroleum, chemical, power and industrial manufacturing business.

We are seeking qualified individuals interested in being part of our dynamic and growing organization. We have an immediate opening for the newly created position of Safety Manager, who will be responsible for developing and implementing a positive safety culture at VEC, ensuring compliance with VEC and client safety programs, overseeing the continuous improvement in all areas of safety for the company and the implementation of industry best practices.

This person should possess strong team leadership skills, the ability to coordinate multiple projects, good time management and project organization skills and excellent communication, public speaking, leadership, and supervisory skills. A college degree and experience in a heavy industry are preferred.

Duties to generally include:
  • Develop, present and schedule on-going safety training programs
  • Oversee improvements/revisions to Safety Manual
  • Respond to client safety questionnaires
  • Frequent field client sites visits. Majority of work hours to be spent at field locations
  • Safety Audits
  • Safety equipment tracking and inspections
  • Liaison with clients’ Safety Contacts
  • Investigate incidents and near misses. Root Cause Analysis
  • Maintain any/all documentation: Safety training, OSHA documentation, etc
  • Monitor and manage EMR
